Description

Your dog has been watching you knit beautiful sweaters for humans long enough. It’s their turn.

The Dog Dream Sweater is a top-down, stranded-colourwork dog sweater inspired by the Dream Sweater from EweKnit Toronto. With its graphic colourwork motifs and textured details, it gives your dog a proper handknit sweater moment — rather than merely something practical to wear outside.

The sweater is worked from the top down and mostly in the round. The armholes are worked using scrap yarn, then picked up later to create seamless sleeves with a textured stitch pattern that coordinates with the body.

There’s also an optional leash hole, because looking fabulous should not interfere with going for a walk.

And because dogs stubbornly refuse to come in standardized sweater dimensions, the pattern includes notes about adjusting armhole placement and trying the sweater on your dog as you knit.

The pattern includes six video tutorials covering techniques used in the design, so you have a little extra help along the way.

Techniques Used

  • Long-tail cast on
  • Increasing
  • Decreasing
  • Knitting in the round
  • Knitting flat
  • Stranded colourwork
  • Picking up stitches

Fit note: The pattern places the armholes after the second colourwork motif, but every dog is shaped a little differently. Your dog may get a better fit with the armholes positioned above the motif, so trying the sweater on as you knit is recommended.

This listing is for a digital knitting pattern, not a finished dog sweater.
