Halloween costume commitment level: extremely low.

The Oogie Boogie Headband is a quick little knit inspired by everyone’s favourite burlap-covered Halloween menace.

It’s spooky. It’s weird. It keeps your ears warm.

What more could you possibly ask from an accessory?

This beginner-friendly headband is knit flat in simple ribbing and seamed together, so there’s no knitting in the round required. Once the headband is finished, the eyes are added as appliqués and contrast stitching gives it that perfectly creepy, stitched-together look.

Which means you can make yourself something delightfully Halloween-y without spending three weeks constructing an elaborate costume you will wear for approximately four hours.

Experienced knitter? This is a speedy little project.

New knitter? This is a great first project that lets you practice the basics and end up with something considerably more exciting than a rectangle that exists solely because someone told you beginners should knit rectangles.

Beginner? You Can Make This.

The main headband is simple ribbing worked flat, so you can concentrate on getting comfortable with your stitches without also wrestling with circular needles.

Then you get to add the appliqué eyes and creepy contrast stitching at the end.

Because learning to knit is significantly more fun when the finished project looks like it might be plotting something.

Wear it to a Halloween party. Wear it while handing out candy. Wear it to the grocery store in October because October has rules and one of them is that this is completely normal.

This listing is for a digital knitting pattern, not a finished headband.
