π
Every year, there is a point where fall stops being a season and becomes my entire personality.
We have reached that point.
I want the windows cracked open. I want something with cinnamon in the oven. I want a dog walk where the leaves make that crunchy sound under our feet. I want a completely unreasonable amount of yarn within armβs reach.
Basically, if it involves baking, crocheting, coffee, a blanket, or Nacho wearing something unnecessary, Iβm interested.
Something Is Always Baking π
The oven has been doing a lot of heavy lifting around here lately.
Apple things. Cinnamon things. Oatmeal things.
Things that make the entire house smell like somebody much more organized than me (jk, I’m pretty organized) has been preparing for fall all day.
There is almost always a batch of cookies, cinnamon rolls, or something involving brown sugar happening.
And honestly, one of the best parts of baking in the fall is that you get the treat and the house smells incredible afterward.
Two jobs. One pan.
Excellent efficiency.
There Is Yarn Everywhere π§Ά
Fall is apparently when I lose the ability to walk past yarn without mentally assigning it a project.
That one could be a scarf.
That one would make a cute dog sweater.
That one is obviously a blanket.
Do I already have several projects going?
That is not relevant to this discussion.
Right now Iβm especially into soft, fuzzy, slightly ridiculous yarns. Velvet. Mohair. Anything that makes the finished project look like it should come with a mug of something warm.
The Dog Walks Are Better ππΎ
Nacho does not care that it is fall.
Nacho cares that there are approximately 4,000 new things on the ground that apparently require individual inspection.
Leaves.
More leaves.
A stick.
Another leaf.
Possibly the exact same leaf from four minutes ago.
Meanwhile, Iβm just happy the air is cooler and the sidewalks are starting to crunch.
Fall dog walks are elite.
I Want Everything to Be Cozy βοΈ
This happens every year.
Suddenly every blanket comes back out.
Coffee tastes better.
The couch becomes considerably more appealing.
I start looking at perfectly normal evenings and thinking, βYou know what would improve this? A crochet project.β
This is also the season where finishing work, doing Pilates, showering, putting on something comfortable, and spending the rest of the night at home feels less like doing nothing and more like an actual plan.
I Am Currently Pumpkin Adjacent π
Here is where I exercise restraint.
I love seeing pumpkins everywhere.
Outside stores. On porches. At farm stands. In other peopleβs shopping carts.
But I am not buying mine yet.
Because I know myself.
One pumpkin becomes five pumpkins.
Five pumpkins become Halloween decorations.
Halloween decorations become me acting like it is October 28th when it is actually September 22nd.
So Iβm waiting.
Second week of October.
Probably.
And Yes, The Dog Will Be Wearing Something πΆπ§Ά
You cannot combine fall, crochet, and dog ownership and expect me to behave normally.
There will be sweaters.
There may be matching accessories.
There will almost certainly be a moment where Nacho looks at me like this was not included in the original adoption agreement.
And yet.
He will look adorable.
This Is Fall Around Here π
Nothing dramatic.
Something baking.
Something on the hook.
A tiny coffee.
A crunchy dog walk.
A blanket on the couch.
Pumpkins waiting patiently for October.
It is a very specific little seasonal ecosystem, and I plan to live in it until November.
