Welcome to your “just one more square” era.

Judy’s Blanket is a colourful crochet baby blanket made from 48 squares in three different designs, which means there’s enough repetition to get into a nice little crochet groove, but enough variety to keep you from questioning your life choices by square number 37.

Probably.

The blanket uses four colours throughout, creating a bright, happy patchwork effect that is VERY cute for babies, toddlers and tiny people who have not yet developed opinions about tasteful neutral interiors.

Two of the square motifs were designed especially for Judy’s Blanket, while the third is a classic four-round granny square. Make 16 of each, watch your little stack of squares become increasingly impressive, then join everything together with single crochet and finish it off with a simple double-crochet border.

The original blanket uses yellow, teal, pink and purple, but this pattern is basically asking you to play with colour. Match a nursery. Use someone’s favourite shades. Go full rainbow. Make it weird. You are in charge here.

The finished blanket measures approximately 40 × 35 inches, making it a lovely size for babies and toddlers, and a very satisfying handmade gift when you would like everyone at the baby shower to know that yes, you did make that.

You’ll Also Need

Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
A willingness to become emotionally invested in a growing stack of granny squares

Make it for a baby. Make it for a toddler. Make it because you bought four colours of yarn that looked incredible together and now need to justify the purchase.

All excellent reasons.
